The rock singing group Alice in Chains was formed in 1987 in Seattle, Washington by Layne Staley who was the main lead singer of the group. Jerry Cantrell was another important person in the band who was co-founder of the band with Staley and his performances with the Staley made the band famous in early 1990s during grunge movement, their unique style was the main reason of their fame. Though, Layne Staley was a superb musician and singer but he could never cope up his problems with drugs as he was drug addict and eventually this habit killed him in 2002. Staley was born on August 22, 1976 and he died on April 5, 2002 due to overdose of drugs.
Describing how he spent his childhood, Staley once said that his life totally changed when his parents got divorced, he was just seven years old at that time and it was the hardest time in his life. After the divorce, the mother took him with her and she got married with another man Jim Elmer but Staley never forgot his real father. Father’s drug addiction was the chief factor in the divorce and perhaps this divorce was the biggest reason that one day he himself became a drug addict.
He was just 12 years old when he first started beating drums. At that time, he had aspirations of becoming a big singer and he wanted to become a big celebrity because there was a notion in his mind that his real father would come back if he became a big celebrity but that day never came in his life. On April 19, 2002, the accountant of Staley contacted his mother and said that no money had been withdrawn from the Staley’s bank account for past two weeks, hearing that, the mother reached at his apartment with the police and when they arrived, they saw that the dead body of the star was lying surrounded by various drug possessions.
Though, he was six-feet-one-inch tall but his body weighed just 86 pound at time when police found him. Later the autopsy report showed that the death was caused after he injected an injection of heroine and cocaine in his body.
