New Year is not proving a good one for so many famous television and radio personalities. Local cable newschannel Bay News 9 has fired Leigh Moody from her anchor job on Monday. Palm Harbor native Leigh Moody had been with the network for nine years. She is now the latest victim among the local TV personalities to lose her job in recent months. Officials at Bay News 9 and Moody declined to provide any sort of details.
“I don’t think this is anything surprising, given the current economic state.”
Moody anchored weeknights and overnights on the newschannel featured on the Bright House Networks cable system. Bright House Network owns Bay News 9 and Bright House Sports Network. Moody is a broadcast journalism graduate from the University of Central Florida. She also worked in Orlando, Charleston, S.C. and Flint, Mich.
Corporate vice president of local programming for the cable television provider, Elliot Wiser said that vacant positions would be filled and cost cutting may not have been an issue. Joe Girven, sports anchor and reporter at Bright House Sports Network left the channel on Tuesday. Elliot said,
“It was a mutual decision in both cases. And the staff changes are not related. Bay News 9 and Bright House Sports are separate operations. It was just a coincidence that both happened this week.”
