Barack Obama
Tonight, before a well-dressed audience President Obama presented his policy over Afghanistan in a speech of 35 minutes. The speech turned skeptical observers from mild opponents to supporters. In speech, he declared that their intention is not to occupy a country or to target a religion but they want to make Afghanistan free from terrorists. He announced the deployment of 30,000 troops. He said that American forces will be started to come back home after July, 2011.
“After 18 months, our troops will begin to come home,” according to Obama’s prepared remarks before an audience of cadets at the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. “These are the resources that we need to seize the initiative, while building the Afghan capacity that can allow for a responsible transition of our forces out of Afghanistan.”
American strategy is to train the afghan forces so American force ultimately leave. America’s top commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley, is forcing to enhance the army and police in Afghanistan up to an number of 400,000. Afghanistan has 84000 police force and approximately 94000 army troops.
The plan is to bring the forces back as early as possible and this 30,000 troops will be brought back home in a period of 8 months (mainly depend on transportation conditions). Obama wants to give relief to wary and war-weary American public.
“The situation in Afghanistan is very different than the situation we faced in Iraq in the sense that we do not have the same kind of transportation access to Afghanistan that we did in Iraq, where we were able, over a five-month period or so, to bring in five brigade combat teams.”
Obama administration will force the corrupt president of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, to govern efficiently, they have realized that they chosen a wrong partner for them but they have no other choice.
