A tsunami hit Samoa on September 30, 2009 in morning. An 8.3-magnitude earthquake was the reason for three-meter tsunami. The earthquake struck off American Samoa. Many villages on low-lying islands in the Pacific are demolished in state of Samoa. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii issued warning and tsunami watch was issued for Hawaii and Papua New Guinea.
204 km southwest of the remote Pacific island was the origin of the earthquake and it struck at a depth of 85 km. Radio New Zealand reported that it was a great quake and aftershocks were continuing after the quake. The Center said
“Sea level readings indicate a tsunami was generated. It may have been destructive along coasts near the earthquake epicentre and could also be a threat to more distant coasts,”
